Annual Black College Tour Provides New Realities
For the past 15 years, UMADAOP's of Ohio have hosted a tour of historic black colleges and universities during Spring break.
This year 55 students from Aiming High programs across the state were afforded this life- changing exposure opportunity. 14 Cleveland Public High-School students were given such a gift from Cleveland UMADAOP.
At no expense to most of their parents students visited West Virginia State University, Winston-Salem University, South Carolina State University, Shaw University, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. In addition to interacting on the college campuses, gaining information about the admissions and finacial aid processes, students were able to glean from college freshman, who just months ago sat in their vary seats.
Before returning to the hotel in the evening for slumber students enjoyed activites including, bowling, rollerskating go-cart racing, lasertag, shopping and loarning at the African-American cultural complex in North Carolina.
Under the coordinated leadership of Wakeso Peterson, (Assistant Director, Toledo UMADAOP) many students, were able to see beyond their current reality and envision a future that is destined for collegiate greatness!
