Goal: UMADAOP of Mansfield provides a safe, chemically free neighborhood environment in which at-risk youth and adults are exposed to information concerning prevention. This is accomplished through educational groups, counseling sessions, workshops and community support groups. Established in the 1980’s, the agency became independent in the summer of 1992. The agency mission is to ensure that the community is aware of the implication, consequences and incidents of alcohol, drugs, crime and violence.
Activities: UMADAOP of Mansfield is involved in the following Activities
E.V.E (Elevating Values Everyday) – Teen pregnancy prevention program.
T.L.C. –123 – (Teaching, Learning, Caring for your 1,2,3 Year olds) – Early Start Program Services children ages 0-3 and their families.
D.A.D – (Developing Active Dads) – Teenage Positive Fathering program
Mission Statement: The mission of the Mansfield Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program is to ensure that alcohol and other drug services are available, accessible and affordable to the African and Hispanic American population. In addition, these services are rendered in a manner that is reflective of and responsive to the cultural essence of the African and Hispanic American population. Along with our alcohol and drug services, we intend to provide treatment services that shall encompass assessment services, individual/group-counseling services, and Intensive Outpatient and referral services.
Program purpose: Our purpose is to assist individuals challenged with substance abuse/dependency patterns in developing a lifestyle of abstinence which brings success in interpersonal, emotional, leisure and vocational areas.
Our program seeks to assist individuals in developing and achieving goals that are critical to his or her recovery from substance abuse. The substance abuse services we provided include:
Intake and assessment
Intensive Outpatient Services
Individual and Group Counseling
Crisis Intervention
Long-term follow-up through weekly peer support groups
Objectives: Our objective is to accurately and effectively assess clients needs. We document the clients’ condition and develop a action plan to ensure that the client will receive the most appropriate environment
Target Population: Our target population consist of, but is not limited to the African and Hispanic American population. We provide our services to any client that meets our program criteria. It is our mission to ensure that the needs of our clients have been met and their alcohol and drug issues are being addressed.
Help Me Grow Program Through Mansfield UMADAOP, Inc.
The Help Me Grow program was developed to educate the community in which we provide services to about development expectations and positive parenting and make it possible for every child and his/her family to receive evaluation and follow-up services regardless of cultural or economic circumstances. We promote intervention within activities and the routines of children and their families. We believe in and support family involvement; we also work collaboratively with parents and local agencies and strive to ensure that each child in our community reaches his/her maximum potential.
Y.L.O.T.T. - (Young Leaders of Today and Tomorrow) is a prevention program designed for grades K-6, where the foundations of learning are considered essential for successful adjustment to later life. We provide an after-school tutorial program, mentoring modules that cultivate and strengthen positive social building skills, intervention, and drug and alcohol awareness. It is believed that if children receive these services while incorporating the forty assets, our children have a better chance of becoming happy, healthy, well-rounded individuals.
Prevention requires more than just providing information. It includes teaching at the child’s developmental level those skills needed for forming a positive self-image, decision-making, coping strategies, and personal values and attitudes, being in an environment to exert a powerful positive influence in assisting students to develop a healthy self-image, and to acquire the skills necessary to deal with his or her world.
Drug prevention focuses on our children and the factors that influence their behavior. Our prevention programs allow participants to develop feelings that are positive and powerful.
Circle for Recovery (CFRO)
The Mansfield UMADAOP’s Circle for Recovery Program is a reentry program designed to assist African American\Hispanic men to provide support for ex-criminal offender in making a healthy and successful transition back into community life. Our program is a supportive resource for individuals and families participation with the UMADAOP organization. We have dedicated our energies toward developing curriculums and training models that prevent, advocate, and advance recovery programming in our community.
Mansfield UMADAOP’s mission is to “improve the quality of life in the African American community by any means necessary.” Our core thrusts are: (1) to ensure that the African American men returning to our community are informed of the availability and accessibility of the diverse social, education and economic resources which can improve their quality of life. We are community based, community minded and committed to building a better community.
